Dr Edward Sri is a theologising, speaking and writing dynamo from the USA. As a leader of the new generation of Catholic lay evangelists he thrives on preaching the Gospel and explaining how the Catholic Church’s teachings bring joy to people’s lives. After speaking to thousands of people in Sydney, Dr Sri came to Melbourne for the final day of his Australian tour which was organised by Parousia Media and sponsored by Catholic Super. Using his unique mix of humour and storytelling, Dr Sri challenged and inspired around 500 people at his Melbourne events.
In the morning he spoke to 100 Catholic parents at St Peter and Paul’s Parish Hall in South Melbourne. Along with Simon Carrington of Fire Up Ministries and Dr Conor Sweeney of the John Paul II Institute, Dr Sri spoke about the challenges of passing on the faith to our children in a secular culture. This was made possible by the sisters of the Leaven of the Immaculate of Mary who somehow managed to keep 40 children busy so the parents could take in the seminar!
Next Dr Sri travelled to the Catholic Leadership Centre in East Melbourne to accompany Dr Andrew Mullins in addressing 50 Primary and Secondary Religious Education teachers about challenges and strategies involved for teaching the faith. He addressed the challenges of secularism and moral relativism as well as showing how the Church’s teaching on love and sexuality is the best bet for helping young people to find happiness and meaningful, lasting relationships.
After a visit to the Cardinal Knox Centre to meet with leaders of various diocesan agencies Dr Sri’s last stop was Australian Catholic University where he presented “Love and Responsibility Live”. The combined efforts of the Life, Marriage and Family Office, Archdiocesan Office for Youth and ACU’s chaplaincy team brought together over 300 young adults for this amazing event. The crowd laughed and cried as Dr Sri drew on insights from Pope St John Paul II’s Theology of the Body to explain that real love, the love that truly satisfies, involves giving yourself in a sacrificial way to others. Not only that, but the counterfeit versions of love that are often promoted by our culture are leading to unhappiness and broken lives.
Dr Edward Sri currently a professor of theology and Vice-President of Mission and Outreach at the Augustine Institute in Denver Colorado. He is a regular presenter on EWTN and the author of several books including “A Biblical Walk Through the Mass”, and the best-selling “Who Am I To Judge?”, which takes a close look at the problem of moral relativism and how we can respond to it logic and love. Dr Sri is a co-founder of FOCUS - the Fellowship of Catholic University Students - which has grown to include thousands of missionaries at universities around the world.
